Beatles Blackbird

Beatles Blackbird

How easy do you think this piece is? I just learned it over 4 days at about
3/4 tempo and it will probably take me another month to play at the real
pace. I don't consider myself good at all. Even that Chris P. shmuck is
probably better than me. but if it's a piece that even I could play. I'm
surprised that I don't hear more 1st year players learning it.

One of the beautiful things about The Beatles is that little of what
they did. from a purely technical musical perspective. was
exceptional. Where they really shone was in their arrangements.
their unique chord progressions. and John put together couldn't outplay Andr's Segovia in terms
of pure technical genius. But that's fine. Their lack of
showboating was among their more endearing qualities. The best part
is that this means that most of what they wrote and played is pretty
simple - it just doesn't sound like it at first glance. That's
probably why you don't hear too many first year players learning it.
'Blackbird' is no exception - in fact. it's probably one of the best
examples there is. I remember once when I was having fun with a capo
installed on a high fret (7. to be exact) and I stumbled upon 'Here
Comes The Sun'. entirely by accident. It was a blast!

Takes standard tuning--at least according to the "official" white book that
has every single song with the guitar. and drum notations. It sounds
pretty faithful to the recording too. If your friend was playing with an
alternate tuning. he was making it harder for himself.

but if it's a piece that even I could play.

I've always played this in standard tuning. A number of songs use this
way of playing in the key of G. Blackbird has nice passing notes.
