Epiphone planning to kill Elitist line?

I noticed that they are starting to offere many of their guitars in only
the natural finish having discontinued the vintage sunburts for most of
their hollow and semi-hollow models.

as MF is blowing out Epis. including the Elitist line. It
never made sense to me. why come out with a MIK line that is not that
far away $ wise from the lower end Gibbies.

They are MIJ. I had an Elitist LP Studio for about a day. Amazing guitar.
$650 including a high quality case. It came damaged from MF (BIG surprise)
after I had waited a month for it to be special ordered. I couldn't get a replacement because MF had just stopped carrying that
model.

That guitar was substantially better than anything Epiphone makes in China
or Korea. To my hands. eyes and ears it was just as good as any Gibson LP
Studio. and I've played many in local shops...only half the price. If I
could find a used White Elitist LP Studio.

Your opinion isnt based on any logic is it? Japan turns out some
outstanding instruments. When The Fender fuc%s first went to Japan to
check out operations there they started crying when they saw the high
degree of quality in the instruments the Japanese were producing. The
American plant couldnt compare then and still cant as far as I know?
Theres a whole truck load of dipshits around here who think their
American ( made in Mexico assembled here by Mexicans) Fenders are of
superior quality and worth the extra money they paid for them. Theres
not one Fender amp or guitar thats made in America . Made in America
means just that. Not made elsewhere and assembled here.Hell they're not
even Fenders to begin with. They might as well have Ronko on the
headstock.( as in pocket fisherman ) The Fenders are no more of a
Fender than the Fender knock offs that some people like putting down
so much. Fuckers refuse to acknowlege that fact

for the links. But I have to say I'm attached to the Spartan
look of the Studio. and only the white one. There's something about white
guitars that gets me fired up. I wonder if Epiphone would tell me how many
white Elitist Studios were made?

I also bought an Elitist LP standard (in ebony) at a blow-out price from
MF. I had them deliver two guitars. One of them was damaged (as I
anticipated) and I kept the other.

Now I am thinking that maybe I should get a Elitist Byrdland. a Broadway
or even a 335 before they do away with the line.

Maybe the combination of the sinking dollar and rebounding Japanese is
making it harder to hit the price point they originally intended.

The Elites have gotten more expensive and for some of the models you
really do have to ask yourself why you aren't getting a Gibson.

Perhaps they will transfer the line to China or add some electric guitars
to their chinese Masterbilt series.

On the other hand. my instincts tell me that the Elites have had more
uniform quality control than Gibsons and the ones for sale on eBay might
be in better condition than the Gibsons for sale.

Someone probably wants to sell their Elitist because they are tired of
explaining to everyone that it is actually a great guitar and they aren't
too cheap to show up with a Gibson for the gig.

On the other hand someone probably wants to sell their Gibson because
they bought a lemon crate or the neck developed a twist or something.

Vid clip on low-volume overdrive sound

I played in the basement in front of my vid cam 'coz it happened to be
there. and now edited a few bits of it into a short example of how my
amp/cab approximately sounds on quite a low volume...and I've been raving
about how I like them tiny wattage amps...so hopefully this gives some idea
of what I like in a sound.

You can hear the amp is pretty low. since even my plectrum hits can be heard
over the sound. Yet I think it sounds 'loud' and even feedbacks nicely and
everything.

The cam's crap mike also did an acceptable job of the sound I think. but you
just have to trust me on that it really doesn't sound that 'buzzy' or even
quite that driven in reality. but rather it has a wee bit more 'bell' like
roundness to it. Perhaps I should have placed the cam a little off axis to
speaker. I guess the mic exaggerates some of the drive. and then also the
plectrum hit sizzle adds a confusing factor.

There's no FX or pedals or anything used. or volume adjusts. all sound
changes are just changes in playing style and how hard the strings are
hit/twisting the neck for some string bending etc. In the very beginning
there's almost clean playing. for that you really have to just about think
of picking the strings. otherwise the rig only does driven and even more
driven sounds.

How do you find the sound? Plz don't comment on my clumsy riffs. I was just
chomping away not playing anything really :-)

Looking for a good sub-$500 guitar for writing/demoing

I'm looking to buy a guitar to use for writing/demoing new songs. The
basic setup will probably be running the guitar through GuitarRig
(software amp modeling app) and recording in Ableton Live. So
basically I want something that can sound decent and is gonna hold up.
but it's not gonna be used for real studio recordings or live
performances or anything like that.

I started playing when I was 15 (I'm 28 now) but I haven't owned a
guitar in a long time. I started playing drums when I was 17 and that
sort of took over. but I can play guitar pretty well... so I'm not
looking for a "beginner" guitar.

I realize this might be a tough request to fill.. I just can't afford
to spend $1000+ on a guitar right now. but I really want to get
something so I can start writing at home.

For an acoustic I assume you want to go direct (which would sound best
with a pickup and preamp system) I'd like at the Washburn and Yamaha
acoustic guitars. their lowest models aren't so hot. but both make a
quality acoustic guitar with a preamp and EQ built in for less than
$500 retail.

both make high quality electric
guitars of about the same grade as American Standard strart (I would
argue better). with Washburn specifcly. the X50 Pro is
just an incredible value... The Ibanez SZ520 is very similar and also
an outstanding value for what it is.

Avoid anything with the Fender name... it's all overpriced garbage.
with the exception of their artist signature guitars and vintage
reissues (Fenders knows this by the way.. you'll notice how they funnel
their advertising. which for the past few years is all about their
reissue Starts).

If you like Les Paul type guitars checkout the Epiphones. but the good
Epi's cost about what a American Standard Strat cost.

Its ok to copy a Gibson LP...

but here's the news article:

What I can't understand is why Gibson sues makes of LP clone. but
Fender doesn't sue anyone making Strat clones?

The Supreme court wouldn't hear the case. because the guitars look
nothing a like... There have been mulitple lawsuits in the past and
basically it's ok to copy a body design (just move a volume knob around
or something). but it's a big problem to copy a headstock. The PRS
Singlecutaway has the signature PSR headstock and inlays... PRS is an
established brand backed by major artist like Carlos Santana and Chad
Kruger (Nickleback).

my pro junior sounds funny

I dont know what is wrong with the amp or the tubes... but I put in a set of
JJ tubes from eurotubes and whenever I play a higher note such as anything
over 12th fret on the last (highest) string with the bridge pickup. the
sound is not right. It sounds slightly distorted with a bit if thrill sound.
It doesnt sound clean like it should and it certainly doesnt sound like
distortion in the tradition namesake of rock. Is the amp broken or just the
tube or is that some other problem? I know its the amp because it didnt
sound like that plugged into a microcube and it didnt sound like that
unplugged either. Also the preamp tube is VERY microphonic. like you can
hear what sounds like tapping wineglass whenever you tap the preamp tube
with a stick. It doesnt even do that on the stock tube by the way. however
it does rattle on certain notes....

Since you know the preamp tube is bad anyway and needs replacing do
that first and see if the other problem still exists. Sometimes you can
get by with slightly microphonic preamp tubes in some of the sockets
but you're better off getting it out of there. They can cause problems
just like the one you described.

and I emailed eurotubes about the problem and I have yet to hear a
reply from them.... and that was 2 months ago... so are all the rave reviews
on harmony central or whatever just made up?

Kid Charlemagne Bridge

Can't find my copy of Royal Scam and I want to play a solo gtr version of
Kid Char at a gig this week. I remember the bridge starts out Em7 - A7 - Dm
and then I can't remeber the rest. I'll hit up itunes if no one here
responds.

I've got a copy of the tab in a book called play gutar with steely Dan. The
chords in the middle eight after the chorus are Em7b5. G6. then it goes into the verse "clean this mess up etc". Hope
this helps.

If you ever have a question about any Dan tune. or are curious about
which is the best compilation book to buy.
