chord guitar

What version of "Sunshine" was that on Profiler?

Anybody have any idea what I'm talking about? I just watched Profiler
(again) on the Sci-Fi channel and they played a version of Cream's
Sunshine of Your Love in the background.
Where was it from.
Closest is obviously the Disraeli Gears version but it sounded like a
remix to me. Any ideas.
Too late to suggest getting a life.

Best keys for Standard tuning - EADGBE

Here's a list of "best" kets that allow the use of open chords given
standard tuning. Hopefully the paste doesn't get all screwed up when I
post - if not. I'll post the other common scales. "Strings" shows the
open strings available. and strings to fret or mute. along with the
suggested chord voicings:

Vid clip continued; JMP-1

Again wanted to share some of my sounds. this time how does a JMP-1 sound
direct-to-PC via a mic preamp and then out via cheap plastic computer
speakers. The cam is just 2 feet from the speaker but its mic not facing it
quite directly.
This time I dropped the vid quality way low.
Naturally it doesn't sound like the greatest amp ever. I think
that considering it comes from 15-dollar plastic 'pomi' computer speakers
and is a D/I sound all the way. it's quite an useable practive sound for
'heavy' tones. Surprisingly reactive too. the JMP-1. Doesn't give me the
'hair up on arms' effect the CM rig does. but it's quite nice to play on.
and as quiet as you want it to be. On the clip I use the same setting all
the time but at the very end I switch to singlecoil. The clean channel is
actually very nice & warm but I basically never play anything clean unless
it's on the acoustic.

How do you like it? I think while it's D/I it still kicks POD ass being more
like 'real' sound.

learned something today . . .

I kill-filed the "infamous" Wereo when he first started posting to AG. Fun
is fun. but he was more than a little boring and basically obnoxious. While
reading a few posts on rec.music.theory. it soon became obvious that Wereo
had expanded his universal domination and pissed all over that group as
well. Somehow I'd always thought that he was a just a young punk with a big
mouth and "newsgroup Tourrette's." It amazed me to learn that he is really
a 48 year old with way more free time than grey matter. Mom was right. you
learn something new everyday!

I'm rather dumb when it comes to this stuff. How do you "kill-file" or
block someone? I've heard of this alot before. I'm using Outlook Express.
Cause not only this group. it'd be great to be
able to filter out the nonsense. A little guidance would be appreciated.

Carvin Bolt (used) vs: new Standard strat..which?

Which would you buy and why? Or am I missing another great strta type
for not much money? (I am already very familiar with all the Yamaha
models)Thanks.

and I've played many of both (live close enough to Hollywood
to visit the outlet store) they match up pretty well. It depends on which
turns you on I guess. I'd go for the Bolt kit and save a bunch of money.
Plus you can customize it. The Carvin neck is really spectacular I'll say.
If you are not good at finishing. pay the extra dough and get the Tung
Oiled neck option. I liked that so much the first time I played a Carvin I
stripped the neck on all my guitar's and basses and put on tung oil. Love
it. Actually tung oil is very easy to apply and also very forgiving in the
process.
Let us know what you decide and how it turns out.

meaning I'm too lazy to swap.

and find the Carvin to be superior to the Strat in
just about every way. I have customized both. but the Carvin is just a
really great guitar. Got it $350 used. I chuckle about that everytime
I play it.

only thing I didnt like about the bolt kit is the body is a bit blocky.... I
really like Fender strat body because it has some really sexy contour that
feels real comfortable. I cant comment on pickups because they sound pretty
much the same to me. except some are noisier than others....

I don't know what "blocky" means. but mine is as rounded as my
strat. Maybe the original buyer had it rounded. I have a buddy who
has a couple of Carvin neck thrus. and know a guy who has a Holdsworth.
All are nicely rounded.

I am with you. I think the Holdsworth is a pretty cool looking
guitar. I listened to a jazz quartet play last month. and the guitar
player had one along with a hollowbody Godin. Sounded great. and after
checking it out during a break. decided the neck is just too fat for
me. Pretty sweet guitar though.

We'll have to see about the neck. I'm used to a wide classical neck. I
want this for some jazz stuff.

and have had 2 others in the past (2 Artist).
The top on my Carvin (high end quilt) is nicer than any I have had on a
PRS. I think they are an amazing guitar for the $.

Beatles Blackbird

How easy do you think this piece is? I just learned it over 4 days at about
3/4 tempo and it will probably take me another month to play at the real
pace. I don't consider myself good at all. Even that Chris P. shmuck is
probably better than me. but if it's a piece that even I could play. I'm
surprised that I don't hear more 1st year players learning it.

One of the beautiful things about The Beatles is that little of what
they did. from a purely technical musical perspective. was
exceptional. Where they really shone was in their arrangements.
their unique chord progressions. and John put together couldn't outplay Andr's Segovia in terms
of pure technical genius. But that's fine. Their lack of
showboating was among their more endearing qualities. The best part
is that this means that most of what they wrote and played is pretty
simple - it just doesn't sound like it at first glance. That's
probably why you don't hear too many first year players learning it.
'Blackbird' is no exception - in fact. it's probably one of the best
examples there is. I remember once when I was having fun with a capo
installed on a high fret (7. to be exact) and I stumbled upon 'Here
Comes The Sun'. entirely by accident. It was a blast!

Takes standard tuning--at least according to the "official" white book that
has every single song with the guitar. and drum notations. It sounds
pretty faithful to the recording too. If your friend was playing with an
alternate tuning. he was making it harder for himself.

but if it's a piece that even I could play.

I've always played this in standard tuning. A number of songs use this
way of playing in the key of G. Blackbird has nice passing notes.

Guitar Lesson

Would you do this?

Which would you rather own?To me it would depend on which felt better
in my hands. You would undoubtably play better on that one.

...Oh woe is me. Nobody knows the troubles I've
seen . Nobody knows the extent of my sorrow

epi jr valve head

I'm hearing so much about these heads that I think I'd like to get one.
but I'm looking for a Canadian distributor...any one know of one ?

Sorry no I dont but I know theres nothing special about them besides
maybe their price. They're not bad little amps but they dont come
anywhere close to matching up with an old one of the same wattage.

Thats definately part of what's attracting me. with family and other
projects on the go the $120 CDN sounds like good bang for the buck. But
with shipping and duty from MF or the others maybe not such a good deal
and I can't find anything locally (although I do live in the sticks).
Right now I've just a crate 60 combo and would like to expand my
horizons.

I don't know a specific outlet. but I do know that Traynor is the Canadian
distributor of Gibson. So perhaps someone who sells Traynors (and I'd
imagine they are plentiful up there) up there will likely be able to get you
anything made by Epiphone. Grab one of these before the price goes up!

I'll call down to them today and see if they have the head (the
closest one to me is about a 2 - 2.5 hour drive). I've heard that the
combo has some buzz from the power tubes that isn't present in the
head. which they addressed in units produced after May 26. I've heard mixed things about them
lately.

Mercury Magnetics is currently offering an upgrade kit for the Epi valve jr.
It includes the transformers. choke and a few other parts along with step by
step instructions. They want $299.00 for the kit. These amps are supposed
to sound dramatically better after this kit is installed. I found out about
this kit from Allen Cyr at the Amp Exchange. He did a lot of the testing.

Some new songs posted

Between my divorce. and contemplating suicide.

Awesome stuff man.... Thanks for sharing! You've got talent. The music
is well produced and your playing is solid. You've got a good voice too
and can write.... So don't kill you yourself. write some more songs.
hook up with some guys and live that dream man.

You've been given a gift few have. you can express yourself through a
music and bleed out that way... Recently went through a near divorce
myself and it inspired an albums worth of songs that I'm still working
on producing.

Mexican Fender Stratocaster by Squier???

I picked up a cheap strat on ebay to form the basis of a Frankenstrat
project! But I am puzzled by what I bought. and could use some input from
the experts out there.

The headstock is the small version with a Fender logo (like the current
logo) except in solid black. s/n/ is MN4 25xxx. . and in the 'Contoured
Body' spot is a 'Squier Series' decal.

The neck is an 80's slab rosewood with what could be a biflex truss rod
hole. (but the neck securing plate is only 4 bolt - no biflex hole!)
Machines are unmarked fexagonal shape. The neck has a skunk stripe. Seems
like a nice neck.

The body feels light. has a single-ply 11 hole white pickguard. and the
pickups are staggered. The trem unit looks a little like a 1970's die cast
model.

Haven't had the neck off yet. ot the pickguard (it just came) - but was
surpried by the headstock logo - and the neck quality.
